Peyton Mobley, War of 1812, Descendant of the Ancient Mobberley's of Mobberley, Cheshire, England and his wife Susannah Hill moved from Fairfield County South Carolina to Walton County Georgia then to Murray County now Whitfield County after her brother Richard Hill Jr. 249th, Walton.* won LL #202 in the 1832 Georgia Land Lottery in the 12th District, 3rd Section, of Cherokee County, that became Murray County now Whitfield County. He purchased this lot from Richard who moved to Cross Plains (Dalton). Payton also purchased LL#203, #179, and #178 on the Coahulla Creek totaling 640 acres that would become the eventual Peyton Mobley Plantation. Known for his flour, corn, and feed goods from his Gristmill which part of the dam still exists today as can be seen on Google Earth. Located on "Mobley Island" Coahulla Creek aprox. 1 mile NE down the Mobley Mill Rd. off Airport Rd. (Road no longer exists past Garie Dr. but picks back up now at the Brock Rd. Bend to Peyton Way. If current owners will give permission to walk to the Island.) Known and unknown burials here. None marked.
