On Old Township Line Road, just west of Route 100 in Upper Uwchlan Township, a tiny, walled-in cemetery is all that remains of the first Methodist congregation established in Chester County. Closed since the 1830s, Benson's Chapel was described as the first meeting house the built by the Methodists of Pennsylvania to be devoted exclusively to worship -- where large congregations assembled for worship, and where the Methodists held their quarterly meetings for Philadelphia Circuit in the 18th century.

No records of Benson's Chapel have survived, so little is known about the original families and those buried there. The congregation of Benson's Chapel clung on 1832, when the last public services were held, and the old meeting place was vacated. At some point, the building was opened up to use as a local school, until a storm fell on the roof and the property was sold to a neighbor.

In 1925, the descendants of two of those buried their erected a bronze plaque on the stone wall enclosing the cemetery to mark the final resting place of their ancestors.
