The current church was consecrated in 1875 and then replaced an earlier church from 1776. There are indications that Värnamo's first church was built in the 14th century, but almost nothing is known about it. However, there are notes about a pastor named Gøty. He was active in Värnamo around 1238. Several churches have been built, used and demolished before the current one from 1875 was inaugurated. At the top of the church tower is a St. Andrew's Cross and inside the church's north cross arm is St. Andrew's Chapel. It is therefore not for nothing that the church is sometimes called St. Andrew's Church. However, Värnamo Church is the official name of the sanctuary. The most distinctive features of the church are the so-called cathedral windows. It is R. Callmander from Gothenburg who painted them. The center window is divided into three fields and they are saturated with symbolism. At the bottom it says IHS (Jesus), around the name is the so-called pearl ring that stands for faith and the blue scrolls around this are a symbol of hope. The background color is red and it should symbolize love. Faith, hope and love. In the middle are two angels. The one in gold shimmering clothes is a man holding out the red sacrificial cross. The other is a woman holding out a smoke offering. Her attire is violet for fasting and healing, red for love and green for faith. And finally in the top window we see the risen Savior with the "yellow-red morning glow of the spring sun" at the top like an arch. The two side windows are to represent the gates of the heavenly Jerusalem. A new altar was installed in 2000 to complement the main altar. Recessed in the new altar is a stone from the monastery church in Nydala.
There is much more to experience in Värnamo church, including the baptismal font from the 13th century which is located in Andreaskapellet.
