Add PhotosSt. Joseph's cemetery was located behind the original St. Joseph's Catholic Church at the corner of North McDuffie St and Earle St in Anderson, SC. It was established with the purchase of land on 15 Dec 1868. The first burial was of Mrs. Bridget Kennedy in May 1880.
All graves from St Joseph's cemetery were disinterred in 1968 to allow construction of a parking lot. Court records and a church history state the cemetery contained 36 graves at the time of which 15 had no headstone or marker. Family names noted were Bargiol, Bienker, Boyles, Davis, Doker, Kennedy, Koke, Kotel, McGillan, McGrath, McNeilius, O'Donnell, Schrimpt, and Zisnack.
The remains were relocated to Forest Lawn Memorial Park just outside the city of Anderson where they share a single common grave in the section "Garden of the Good Shepherd". The grave is marked by a bronze plaque with no names. The inscription on the plaque reads: "These remains were transferred from Saint Joseph's Catholic Church 1968; May they rest in peace."
