Cherry Grove Cemetery was started when Thomas Treadaway buried his beloved wife, Nancy Bell Treadaway in March of 1860. He was buried there later that year in December. Four of his 6 children were also buried nearby. Since then this has become a family cemetery for his descendants of Treadaways, Hendersons and Williams, also for community friends and neighbors. We have also been told in years past that some of the slaves and Indians in the area were buried here.
There was a perpetual cemetery fund set up by family members in 1982 to keep the cemetery in good shape. The grass is cut every month in the summer from these funds. We also take donations from family members of people buried there to keep the grounds for years to come. Donations can be made to Eddye, Robby or Paul Williams in C/O of Cherry Grove Cemetery fund.
Declaration is Mother's day and people normally clean graves and put out new flowers.
