This burial ground consisted of a collection of burial grounds including the Propietors' Burial Ground, the Field's Burial Ground, Isaac Manchester BG, Thomas Sprague BG, Stephen K Rathbone and Seth Padelford BG, and the Beneficent Congregational Society BG. It was located at the corner of Friendship and Beacon streets, bounded by Plain, Friendship and Beacon Streets. The Proprietor's lot contained 88,815 square feet or a little more than 2 acres but the whole complex comprising the West Burial Ground was seventeen acres. When it was removed a Hayward Park was put in its place. The data for stones moved to Cranston in 1870 are from a transcription done by W W Chapin May 13 1913 of stones taken from the West Burial Ground in Providence to the Oakland Cemetery, Broad St Cranston, updated 1993 by John Sterling. The West Burial Ground was located at the junction of I95 and I195. It was moved from 1869-1888. 10 Jun 1877 the last bodies were removed from the Beneficent Congregational Church Cemetery to lot 2342. On 31 Dec 1888 the last 110 bodies were removed from the West Burial Ground and reinterred at North Burial Ground in a 1500 square foot triangle purchased by the city of Providence. A 10 foot pyramid monument marks the location.
