REMOVED TO HIGHLAND MEMORIAL PARK (JN008)
Transcribed by James N. Arnold Aug 25, 1919: "At the Mowry Four corners on the Putnam Ave. northwest in open lot, is a small yard, lot fenced granite posts and iron rails, yard in fair condition." Along with Arnold's transcription are two stones added by Grace G. Tillinghast. It was also transcribed by Ethel M. White Jan 28, 1940: "Mowry Burial Ground - in field, fenced with iron rails. Cor junction - Cedar Swamp Rd. and Putnam Ave. Opposite Roseland." This cemetery was removed in the early 1970s. It would have been originally located adjacent to a former Benny's store. It was relocated for the construction of a business which never occurred ( as of 1998). Records indicate that the remains of 13 of the original 17 bodies were interred in the "Acadia" section, lots 21A and 22. The original stones were not moved to Highland, and only 4 names appear on bronze plaques. What happened to the other bodies remains unknown. However, cemetery records indicate that the re-internment took place on March 18, 1954 for all 13 bodies. This would be about 20 years before all other accounts say the bodies were moved.
