In 1965, Clifford Colin farmed land adjacent to Charles Mound on the west side. He wanted to clear a pasture but before he could plow, he had to clear up aprox. 30 tombstones scattered throughout the 30 acre pasture. Most of the markers are weathered and many are damaged by livestock grazing in the pasture. The owner thought it was a cemetery developed from an early epidemic.
The stones were stacked by a tree on the property. The adjacent landowners of Charles Mound - Mr. & Mrs. Leslie Stiefel asked to set up the markers at the entrance to the mound. They were fenced in and on display for many years.
The current landowners of Charles Mound have what stones remain stored in a barn on the property. These were photographed in May of 2018 and the information on them entered here.
