On the 3rd January 1882, at a meeting of local officials, it was decided that “taking into consideration the increasing population of Kirwee, and the liberal offer of Capt. Tosswill of a very suitable site, it is desirable that steps should be taken towards the erection of a Church at Kirwee“. http://keteselwyn.peoplesnetworknz.info/places_of_interest/topics/show/380-st-georges-church-kirwee
On the 10th November, 1882, the tender of a Mr. Jamieson was accepted to build the church for the sum of £246 and, as per the newspaper article above, St George’s Church and the burial grounds were consecrated on the 15th May, 1883.
