The Williams graves are found on Poole’s Island in the Chesapeake Bay, southeast of the southern point of the peninsula formed by the Gunpowder River and the Bush River, in Harford County, Maryland. In 1855, the two Williams brother were caught in a sudden snow squall that arose. Their ship capsized and sank in the freezing waters off Pooles Island. Their bodies lost until several months later when they washed ashore and were found by the keeper of the lighthouse. He buried the remains on the island. The Army later moved the remains to a resting place near the lighthouse. The graves are located about 200 feet south of the lighthouse on the northern end of the island and 100 feet inland from the shore. Denied access - this cemetery on land controlled by the US Army Aberdeen Proving Ground and access is restricted to personnel cleared for entry.
