General Description: Lawson's Election District No. 8 (1994), same in 1877. Located near the home of J.T. Evans and the home of M. Evans on the 1877 Atlas of the Eastern Shore. This burial ground is near the westernmost boundary of a tract of land called "Little Uske" patented on 4 July 1681 by Nathaniel Daugherty containing about 100 acres of land. The area is moderately overgrown at this time and surrounded by a pine woods. From the 1938 aerial photographs of the area, it is obvious that the site was located near a house on a small farm in tillage in 1938. The Evans family interred in this cemetery is not known to be descended from the Smith's Island group, but probably removed from Virginia to Somerset County. The property now belongs to the State of Maryland and is located within Janes Island State Park. Listed with permission from Janes Island Park personnel, Phil Goldsborough and Rebecca F. Miller in 1994.Please do not try to visit this Cemetery without permission of the State Park Service.
