Search Two Heart Cemetery:

Cemetery is between Lake Superior and the Two Hearted River elevated upon a sand dune. A forest fire in May of 2012, destroyed all the trees and wooden markers. Two metal posts are all that remain of the cemetery. Burials here were mostly for staff, family members and unclaimed sailors who perished in Lake Superior. Their bodies were recovered by the Coast Guard Life Saving staff at Two Heart. The Life Saving Station was positioned in Michigan near the mouth of the Two Hearted River on Lake Superior from 1880 to 1915. All remnants of the station are now gone. The cemetery site is small, unmarked and difficult to find. It is located on the Lake Superior side of the river, about 200 yards West of the suspension foot bridge and South of the old Coast Guard Road. It is positioned up between two sand dunes.
