Family graveyard located near the Old Skiles Houseplace [burned 16 Jan 1880] 13.5 miles WSW from Marshall, Harrison County, Texas, on the north side of the old "Wallings Ferry Road" [present FM968, about 250 feet due N from its intersection with Boyd Road]. Recorded in the Texas Archeological Site Atlas as No. 41HS526 [see map tab].
Location & identity based on two life-long locally-resident oral-history informants: Cleveland Long b. 1908, remembered this as the location of a few grave-markers, when he played in the area as a boy, about 1915 [see fieldnotes for site 41HS526]; and, Inez Hatley-Hughes [pre-eminent Harrison County historian & county archivist; nearby Hatley creek is named for her Hatley family ancestors, who were near neighbors of the Skiles family], identified this as the location of "the old Skiles homeplace," in a personal communication to Bobby Skiles, in 1981.
