Originally associated with the Providence New Connexion Methodist congregation, this site began to be used for burials in the early 1800s. The chapel itself was demolished sometime in the latter part of the 20th century.
There are two parts to the cemetery. The portion of the cemetery on the north-side of Deighton Road was the original chapelyard and contains the oldest burials dating from 1806 onwards. A plot of land on the south side of Deighton Road was later used in the 20th century as a Chapelyard Extension Cemetery.
A copy of the Burial Register (1874-1976) is held at the Kirklees office of the West Yorkshire Archive Service. There are two Commonwealth War Grave Commission burials in the chapelyard.
