The old church of Strowan and its surrounding churchyard are situated on Strowan Road in Perthshire between the River Earn (Strathearn) and Crossieburn just east of Strowan House. The name “Strowan” derives from the name of St. Ronan, or St. Rowan, a bishop said to have been associated with the legendary King Maldwin of the eighth century. A ruin now, Strowan Church once was a thatched one-storey building. The east gable and part of the side walls are still standing, and several memorial stones built into the walls are visible, though hard to decipher due to the effects of the elements. Several individual graves marked with stone crosses can be seen in the kirkyard. Strowan church united with Monzievaird before 1662.
