Finsbury, London Borough of Islington, Greater London, EC1V 8DA England - Cemetery ID: 2648098
Despite opposition from the adjacent parish of St. Luke Finsbury, the foundation stone was laid on January 27, 1822 for a new church dedicated to St. Barnabas. The adjacent churches of St. Matthew (1849) and St. Clement (1880) were dedicated in the following years as the population of Finsbury increased and new places of worship needed to be built. The churches of St. Clement and St. Matthew were destroyed during the London bombings of WWII, and the three parishes were united in 1952 under the name of St. Clement, but housed in the old St. Barnabas Church. A detailed history of the church is given at www.stclementfinsbury.org
