An important battle of the Civil War was fought here. Col. Abel Streight and his raiders camped one night in the gap. The next morning, Gen. Bedford Forrest's Cavalry surprised them. The battle itself lasted only a few hours. The road past the old Day home was possibly the road that Forrest's main forces traveled. Six soldiers killed in this battle are buried on the east side of the family cemetery with fieldstone markers.
Directions: Take Hwy 157 south to Parkers Gap Rd, turn right and go to Days Gap Rd and turn right and go to the foot of the mountain. You will have to park your car and walk about ½ mile up the side of the mountain and look for the cemetery.
