This is a small plot of land that extends out into the Arkansas River along the levee. It is located on the levee along Hwy 212 just north of the Back Gate and Pendleton area. When the levee was built, they excavated around this burial site. It is basically an island extending into a "slack-water" area of the river. Sadly, when I first saw it many years ago, there were three or four other graves. At that time, I tried to post information online on current genealogy sites (at that time) for each last name. Now, the river current and flooding through the years have eroded the little island and there is only one grave site left. I happened to think of it and wanted to document it on FAG because I noticed the island appeared much smaller. I was saddened to only find one grave/stone left (Martha) and it will probably be lost to the river at some point in the future. Luckily at this point (2017), it is located in the center of what is left of the land. I did find the base of another stone. It was hanging on the edge of the eroded side. The actual stone was nowhere to be seen.
