The graveyard is located within the grounds of St. Michael's Church, (Church of Ireland - Anglican), Ballina.
It is the Church of Kilmoremoy Parish, Diocese of Killala.
The building of the Church was commenced in 1763, with various additions being made over the centuries.
The headstones were photographed on 27 January 2017.
Parts of the grounds at the back of the church are very overgrown. It is estimated that a further 20% of the headstones were illegible.
The earliest recorded burial here, is that of Mary Thompson, who died in 1855.
Other cemeteries in Ballina include
Ardnaree Abbey Cemetery
in the town centre, beside the Catholic Cathedral
on the northern side of the town, off the Killala Road.
Please note that up until 1898, all of Ballina on the west bank of the River Moy was in County Mayo, with the areas of Ardnaree and Crockettstown on the east bank being in County Sligo.
The boundaries were changed then to recognise the expansion of the town.
Many of those who lived on the east bank of the River Moy were born in what was then Co. Sligo, but at their death were resident in Co. Mayo.
