The 220-foot-tall spire of United Presbyterian Church on Chenango Street can be seen from nearly anywhere in the City of Binghamton. The stately, Romanesque-style brick building was designed by New York City architect J.J. Lyon, and construction began in 1860.
Originally known as First Presbyterian, the building would operate under that name for nearly 150 years. In 2010, congregations of Binghamton's First Presbyterian and West Presbyterian societies consolidated, resulting in the current designation as United Presbyterian Church.
