This cemetery was revealed in a 2-Jan-2017 article which appeared in the Virginian-Pilot online newspaper article regarding the expansion of interstate roads adjacent to this cemetery.
Research by numerous Facebook users revealed the history and some names of family members interred at this location.
This previously unknown cemetery was created and several burial records were then added. The GPS coordinates were calculated and posted so the mapping function now shows the correct physical location.
Additional family information and photos can be reviewed on a website carolshouse dot com / cemetery records / hawk.
The cemetery is located several hundred feet NW of the First Baptist Church of Norfolk at 312 Kempsville Road, Norfolk, VA. Although they do not claim ownership, they have been maintaining the grounds.
The top cemetery photo was posted on 14-Jan-2017 showing the small graveyard after the area was cleared of trees and brush so the freeway work could be completed. It does not appear the graves were disturbed.
The bottom cemetery photo was captured from Street View using Google Maps. This image was recorded sometime during 2015.
The early 1900's death certificates posted on memorials identify this as the Greenwitch or Greenwitch Station cemetery located in Prince Anne County. This county no longer exists, perhaps annexed by Norfolk City County sometime later in the century.
