This is the Conklin burial ground that was covered by Pine Meadow Lake when the Civilian Conservation Corps dammed the valley in the 1930's. According to Harriman Trails - A Guide And History (NYNJ Trail Conference) Ramsey Conklin said there were 19 graves here, including his mother and father's. The same source says Ramsey's father was a Stephen Conklin,1815 - 1902. A NYTimes article from March 24 1935 quotes Ramsey Conklin saying "Granny's grave is up there an' Phoebe Jane's and Aunt George's Tillie's grave too". The same article says there were no inscribed tombstones at the site.

Stones piled to mark the burial site are visible in years when the lakes level drops.
