The church was built on Quarry Hill in 1823-26 and was demolished in 1979. The churchyard is grassed over and now used as a local green space. Burials in the churchyard were recorded in the register for St Peter Minster, with the note in the entry to say "at St Mary". Many victims of the cholera outbreak of 1844 were buried in its churchyard.
