Search Revesby Abbey:

Founded by William de Roumare, Lord of Bolingbroke and Earl of Lincoln, in 1143, as a Savigniac abbey, it was Cistercian from 1147 to 1538. After the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the 16th century, the Abbey was demolished and a country house built. Nothing of the abbey is visible today. Excavations undertaken in 1869, located only the abbey church and cloister. In 1870, the skeletons of several monks were found. Earthworks indicate the extent of the abbey precinct, and reveal the location of 3 rectangular fishponds, but there are no standing remains.
