During the following century the premises were altered and enlarged but by 1814 it was decided that a completely new Meeting House was needed. The current building was opened in 1816, and not only is it still used for meetings; it is the home of the Quaker Tapestry Exhibition.
As far as burials are concerned, it is known that the oldest site in Kendal was in Sepulchre Lane (sometimes known as Fellside Quaker Cemetery), where some 200 burials took place between 1656 and 1855. The graves were however levelled in 1863 and the grounds are now a recreational garden.
It is also known that during some of this period burials took place in the grounds around the Kendal Meeting House. Copies of instructions to gravediggers can be found asking for graves to be dug at or close to Stramongate. Although the earliest named grave is 1828 in plot 17 it could be assumed that plots 1 – 16 were used between the opening of the Meeting House in 1816 and 1828; all occupying the ground at the rear of the building. Notwithstanding the numbering system, it is thought that there are likely to have been a number of earlier burials, either in the same location or under the area that now serves as the car park.
The main burial ground in Kendal for Quakers is now located in Sedberg Road. It opened in 1856
