At the old church of St Peter, a walled graveyard surrounds the historic St Peter's Church just outside the village of Duffus, now in the care of Historic Scotland. The church was built in the 12th or 13th century and has been added to and largely rebuilt in subsequent years. The church went out of use in the 1860s when a new parish church was built, but the graveyard continued to be used for burials. There are many 17th, 18th and 19th century gravestones and monuments, as well as the burial enclosure of the Dunbar family. On the far side of the graveyard, is a small gabled watch house dated 1830.
The Old Mercat Cross stands at the centre of the graveyard at the back of the church ruin.
