The Paul Thilman Burying Ground is located behind the Pamunkey Regional Library in Hanover Courthouse, Virginia. There are no marked graves. A stone bench marking the site of the cemetery reads:

"Safe are the souls whom thou dost keep,
and safely here their dust shall sleep."

to mark the Paul Thilman Burying Ground

The Thilman family were proprietors of Hanover Tavern for several generations. Paul Thilman Sr. bought the Tavern in 1764 and ran it until his death in 1784. His son Paul Thilman Jr. inherited the Tavern and ran it until his death in 1802. He married Barbara Overton Winston in 1797. Their son William Thilman became Tavern owner upon reaching his majority in 1820. He was the last Thilman to run Hanover Tavern and died in 1829.
