Johnson Cemetery
aka Norwegian Lutheran Church Cemetery

On east side of Brickyard Road just north of the corner of Michilinda and Brickyard Road in Cedar Creek Township, Muskegon County, Michigan. Very hard to see from the road as it is located in a wooded area and the cemetery is basically abandoned and no longer maintained.

The following history is provided based on review of the 1880, 1884, 1894 and 1900 Census, death records from www.familysearch.org and www.seekingmichigan.org, along with the Johnson Cemetery description from the Muskegon County Genealogical Society website at: http://genealogymuskegon.com/Databases/Cemeteries/johnson.htm

Johnson Cemetery History
This cemetery started as a Lutheran Church cemetery and after the church site was moved further north the little cemetery was more or less abandoned. The only stones surviving are a foot stone with the initials G.A. and an obelisk with the following inscriptions. On the base: Children of Jacob and Mary M. JOHNSON. 1st Side: Gust Anderson – 20 years 7 months, 5-Sep-1885; 2nd side: JNES M. B 1884 (This is probably a daughter who died February 12, 1884 at 13 days of age. 3rd Side: J. Hildebrant-Born 1872 (Probably Jacob H., age 13 in the 1884 census); Jlva M., Born 1881 (No child of this age is listed in the 1884 census). There are more unmarked graves in the cemetery. Jacob Johnson is buried there, his wife Mary is buried in Roy, New Mexico.
