The town of Ste-EIisabeth, founded in 1898, belongs to the Municipality Of Montcalm and borders the Municipality of De Salaberry. At one time, this town spanned over an area of twelve sections long by eight sections wide (i.e., 72 miles by 48 miles [3,456 square miles] or 115.2 km by 76.8 l, [approximately 895,100 hectares]). The parish erected its first Roman Catholic Church and Rectory in 1901, but unfortunately. a devastating fire destroyed it in May 1951. Shortly after the loss, a new Church was built. which is the building that still stands to this day. (Source: Reflections - réflets -- Ste Élisabeth and Area, page 1)
This cemetery is located on the east side of the church in (what was) the village of Ste. Elizabeth.

A Roman Catholic church at Ste. Elizabeth, in the Rural Municipality of Montcalm, was constructed of concrete blocks in 1951. By 1997, the church was closed and converted into a private residence. Flooded by the Red River in 1997, a condition of flood compensation for the resident required the building to be demolished. Instead, former Ste. Elizabeth parishioners bought it back from the owner and turned it back into a church. The building is used for an annual mass and picnic in August.
In 2010, a memorial listing those in the cemetery without a marker was dedicated, with the earliest death being that of three-day-old Jean-Baptiste Lecuyer (14-17 December 1900), son of Stephen and Marie-Louise (Saurette).

Of note: While the town site of the (former) Ste-Elizabeth itself is in the RM of Montcalm, the cemetery, outside of town, lies across the road that is part of the boundary that puts the church and yard in the RM of De Salaberry
As noted above, part of the story of the town and its inhabitants from the early days of European settlement through roughly 19nn is told in (partially in each of French and English) the volume "Reflections - réflets -- Ste Élisabeth and Area", especially starting on page 19. A free digital version of this and many other Manitoba local history books can be found online in the University of Manitoba Digital Collections. There is also a list of such books organized by district and town name on the Manitoba Historical Society's website on their page entitled "Finding Aid: Manitoba Local History Books".
A list of burials in this cemetery is available from the Manitoba Genealogical Society, as transcribed by members in 1989. Also available to MGS members is a searchable online database named the MGS Manitoba Name Index (or MANI).
