“Apsaalooke” is the Crow Indian pronunciation for their name, “Crow.” Federal law created Native American veterans cemeteries to honor not only American Indians but any military veteran who served with honor in the armed forces of the United States. The Apsaalooke Veterans Cemetery is part of the US Department of Veterans Affairs state cemetery grant program to create Native American veterans cemeteries. Native American veterans cemeteries afford American Indians with culturally relevant ceremonies for burial.
The three-acre, $1.2 million dollar Apsaalooke Veterans Cemetery, was built in 2015 and has interment space for about 240.
