The “Ball Poteet Cemetery” is located about 4 miles east of Jonesville, Lee County, Virginia and about 1 mile west of the York Methodist Church. This small family burying ground is on the edge of property that was once owned by Benjamin Franklin Poteet (1861-1953). After Benjamin Poteet bought his farm in 1896 he had a new born that died and he buried it on the edge of his property near his side of the fence. This was the beginning of the cemetery. On the other side of the fence is a cemetery for a neighboring family. For those who have lived in the area the cemetery on the Benjamin Poteet farm has been called “Ball Poteet Cemetery” for many years and the adjacent cemetery has been called “Ball Cemetery”.
