Isle family moving plots in advance of progress

GALVESTON-The 16 graves in the old Boehl Family Cemetery are being moved to Lakeview Cemetery, at the requestof remaining family members,a spokesman for Broadway Funeral Home said Thursday.
The graves, in pastureland just east of the intersection of FM 3005 and 13 Mile Road, were being carefully exhumed for movement on Thursday, under the supervision of Joe Termini of Broadway Funeral Home.
The cemetery was started in 1887. The oldest grave on a list of the graves in the cemetery was that of Johan Gallenger 1820-1890.
The most recent graves in the cemetery date from the 1960's placed there by Broadway Funeral Home.
Termini, with permits from the Galveston County Health District, said he felt there should be no stories about the removal of the graves. "After all" he said "we have the removal of private family graves, authorized by family members, from private property to a private cemetery. I just don't see what all the news is about."
Callers had seen concrete burial vaults from the most recent graves and were alarmed that someone was "digging up caskets."
It is all on the up and up Termini said.
And though he was reluctant to talk about it, family members apparently felt it would be proper to remove the old family cemetery from an area likely to be paved over soon with roads or slabs under beach houses.
