Search Phillips Cemetery:

Located across the Johns Creek tributary just beyond the junction of highways 632 and 194. After crossing the bridge bare to the right and continue up the hillside. There are two (2) cemeteries on this hillside and have often been connected together on many memorials however these are two different cemeteries. The cemetery to the left is the May Family Cemetery and has been documented by Jonah May, descendant of many of those buried there. The Phillips Cemetery is on the right side of the road. It has also been known as the Phillips Cemetery, Layne Cemetery, Phillips Layne Cemetery, and many older records calls it the Elkhorn Cemetery (which has also been confused with the Elkhorn City Cemetery in Elkhorn City, Ky). It is a large cemetery with many fieldstones and unreadable markers. Several very early Phillips and Layne settlers of Pike Co are buried here.
