Search Long Burial Ground:

Longswamp Township: Traveling south on State St. in Mertztown, turn left onto Longsdale. Site is on the left after a sharp left and a curve in the road. Will need to take a long lane down to the house. If you have reached Tower Rd., you have gone too far. . Size: Appears to be "L" shaped; 233' starting at the lower edge of barn and going up toward the hill x 72' beside and in back of barn.
History: See MHBA, p. 700. "Jacob Long, early emigrant arriving in 1737 and settling in Longswamp, was buried on the portion of the old homestead owned by William Long." There is a very early grist mill on this site, fed by the beginnings of the Little Lehigh.
Gravemarkers and inscriptions: None remain.
Observations: Indicates 6 rows of 45 abreast laying southeast to northwest; further activity was picked up on. the hill all the way to the road, but this activity was not consistent with a burial pattern; likely it occurred from several types of mining projects.
