Saint Pauls Church-on-the-Hill was established in 1854. The original church, built in 1857, was located in Saint Paul Lowertown on the site of what is now CHS Field.

The existing church, built in 1913, is located on historic Summit Avenue. It was designed by Emmanuel L. Masqueray, who also designed the Cathedral of Saint Paul and the Basilica of Saint Mary. The first service held at the church took place on Christmas Day in 1913.

The church contains 33 stained glass windows, many of which are dedicated to early Saint Paul settlers.

Father John Wright was priest and rector at the time the new church was built. Upon his death in 1919, his body was buried in a crypt under the sanctuary. This burial space is considered a historic non-operating cemetery which requires that his body remain with the building.
