Built in 1840 as an imposing 'cathedral' for Methodism to commemorate the centenary of John Wesley's conversion in 1738. It was the home church of David Hill, missionary to China, who is commemorated on one of the many impressive memorial plaques.

The church has an excellent three manual pipe organ boasting nearly 2,500 pipes dating from 1841 and installed by John Brown, a local man.
