This cemetery is located in the woods on a hill above the Dan River, on the back (east) side of Pine Hall Plantation. There are an undetermined number of graves marked only with uninscribed field stones, and probably other unmarked graves. The only inscribed stone is that of William Southern, who died in 1846. The cemetery is traditionally thought to have been a slave cemetery. Willam Southern was white and owned a small property on Blackies Branch north of Pine Hall, and it is not known why he came to be buried at this location. This cemetery should not be confused with the Anderson-Hanes Cemetery (included in findagrave), which lies on the plantation west of the plantation house and contains graves of members of the families that built and later owned Pine Hall Plantation.
