2020 will be the year of Gillies Township 100th Anniversary!!!
Why not join us for the preliminary meeting of an
Anniversary Book Committee
It is interesting to look back to glimpse what life must have been like 100 years ago. For example, infant and child death was a far more common experience for our Gillies pioneer families at the beginning of the 20th century than it is today. In Pinegrove cemetery, there are about 46 burials identified and half of those were children! Some names are familiar pioneer family names and others show that families came to Gillies but didn't stay. We can find information on some of the children in Pinegrove cemetery and their families using today's technology and others remain a mystery, perhaps recorded only in a family memento.

The history of Gillies township, from its beginning during the days of silver mining, through industries in lumbering and agriculture, is an exciting one that we should document for the 100th Anniversary
At the time of corporation in May 1920, the population was approximately 442 people. Do you have information or pictures about any of those individuals, or the families who came before and after them, that you would wish included in an Anniversary book? Do you know anything about the pioneers who homesteaded your property? Would you like to volunteer to work on the history book? Why not join us for a preliminary planning meeting March 21st, 7 p.m. at the Gillies Community Centre!
