This cemetery began as a burial ground for local First Nations people on a site that archaeologists have discovered was used for hundreds of years. It was subsequently used by settlers of European descent starting in the mid-1850s. The site was used until the early 1900s and contains the remains of approximately nineteen people. The cemetery fell into disuse and was largely forgotten until designated and suitably recognized by the local municipality in August 2015.
