This is said to be the first burial place in Worcester. The oldest burial was of Rachel Kellough in 1717. A total of twenty eight others would be buried on the site until the Worcester Common Burial Ground opened in 1730. When Isaiah Thomas died on April 4, 1831, he deeded to the city the land of the former burial ground, for the construction of a brick school house. It is supposed that the graves were moved to Worcester Common. The Thomas Street School closed in 1956, and the lot is now owned by the VNA.
