According to undocumented Kinchloe family tradition, this is the location of the grave of Daniel Kinchloe and his family. Kinchloe is said to have worked the Union Mill, the site of which now lies within the park. Some say that all grave markers in the cemetery were removed during the Civil War by Union soldiers.
An account of an earlier survey of this cemetery appeared in the June 1, 1928 issue of the "Fairfax Herald" --
"...[Members] of Fairfax Chapter D.A.R. went to Wyckliffe, about three miles south of Clifton Station to locate the graves of Moses and Aaron Wyckliffe, in the family cemetery. After considerable search the graves were at last definitely located and within the next few months, will be properly marked by Fairfax Chapter, D.A.R. The Wyckliffes, it is said, were second cousins of General Washington and they are also ancestors of James U. Kincheloe."
When members of the Fairfax Genealogical Society surveyed the site in 1994, the cemetery was situated at the edge of a mowed field. It contained two military-issue gravestones which had been mounted together in concrete. A brass plaque read: "Placed by Fairfax County Chapter, May 1931." A bronze emblem for the Daughters of the American Revolution was attached to the top of the monument.
Taken from text written by Judi McGarvey for Volume II, "Fairfax County, Virginia Gravestones," complied by the Fairfax Genealogical Society, 1994."
