This is a very old cemetery, which is now closed, other than for occasional burials in a family plot.

It is close to, but is separate from,
Ard na Gaoithe Cemetery

On the eastern side the are two rows of "Famine Graves", each approximately 30 metres long, with small upright stones for grave markers. None of these small stones have an inscription.

Approx. 25 headstones throughout the cemetery were illegible.

A commemorative plaque on the Cemetery Cross in the adjoining new section reads:

of your charity please pray for all buried
here down through the ages since
early christian times. young and old,
rich and poor, including martyr-victims
of persecution and famine. they lie in
the shadow of their church, now in ruins.

There are 5 persons noted on headstones, whose burials took place prior to 1800.
The earliest recorded burial is that for
John Power
who died on 20 January 1781.
