There are 2 different Mount Olivet Churches in Paulding County, 7-8 miles apart.

The cemetery is located on the grounds of one of Paulding County’s oldest churches and the oldest African American Church in Paulding County.
Mt. Olivet’s beginnings trace to freed slaves who first organized “bush meetings” led by traveling preachers in 1866. The meetings evolved into a permanent church and cemetery on Old Yorkville-Villa Rica Road. The church later burned and members had trouble finding land on which to rebuild because of racial discrimination. The church was relocated to this site in 1920, a few feet from the present church with its front facing the old cemetery. The old church built in 1920 was torn down and the current church was built in 1981.
