The cemetery, located on land behind the Provincial House of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart, was dedicated during the installation of the congregation in Arthabaka, October 2, 1875. The first cemetery occupied an area of about 40 feet square . The oldest tomb, that of Br C F Odéric, in 1882. Over the years, the Brothers of the Sacred Heart have carried out development and restoration work. The cemetery was enlarged in three stages. In 1907, the brothers added 70 feet to the northwest. In 1921, the cemetery earned about 30 feet in front and to the south-west. In 1955, Br Réal conducted an enlargement filling the valley located at the northwest boundary. To achieve this, he and some colleagues moved a considerable amount of dirt from the pit behind l'Hôtel de Ville in Victoriaville.
In 2009, the cemetery housed the graves of 260 Canadian, 32 French and 19 US brothers. A monument erected in 1984 by the brothers Fernand and Gérard Desmarais memorialize the names of 13 brothers whom died during missions abroad and buried in France, Madagascar and Cameroon.
The cemetery is a place of contemplation and memories for the Brothers. It has also become a tourist attraction thanks to the quality of its management. Carefully maintained by the brothers and employees of the house, the cemetery is surrounded by trees and shrubs and cultivated a wide variety of flowers.
