Abbaye Trappiste Val Notre-Dame à St-Jean-de-Matha
Trappist Abbey Val Notre-Dame in St John de Matha
On March 1, 2009, after 127 years, the Trappists of Oka left their monastery to move to the Abbaye Val Notre-Dame in Saint-Jean-de-Matha. The new abbey, built on a large property at the foot of La Montagne Coupée, has very bold architecture of its church, which is always open to visitors.
Their shop provides a full range of products made on site: delicious caramel, fine chocolates, maple sugar peanut butter, almond butter, as well as fruit cake and date cake. The monks also offer a great variety of produce from Lanaudière region.
A large room, adjacent to the shop and opening onto the outside, hosts occasional exhibitions. Outside tables are also available for picnicking. Work up an appetite or take a stroll after eating on our walking trails. You'll love the beauty of the setting!
