On September 4, 1968 the first known survey of this cemetery was completed by Dr. Allan E. Marble. Per his usual method, he did not name the cemetery but assigned it an identifying number, in this case 76, and a location, Upper Clements. Although he did not name the cemetery, he did note that Goat Island Baptist Church was established in 1810.

At a later date, Genweb volunteers transcribed Dr. Marble's original survey notes and made them available online at Rootsweb and, at that time, the volunteers gave the cemetery the name "Goat Island Baptist Church Cemetery" and the location as Upper Clements.

Dr. Marble transcribed 36 headstones in 1968, which he noted as being in poor condition. This is an inactive cemetery. The most recent burial appears to have taken place in 1978.

Goat Island Baptist Church is also known as Potter's Church. It was so named for Rev. Israel Potter.

DIRECTIONS: The cemetery is located on the east side of Highway 1, at Civic #2340, the Goat Island Baptist Church.
