Mr. and Mrs. T. Roger homesteaded the land where the Riverside cemetery is located now and they kept a Stopping Place there. Travellers from anywhere West on their way to Emerson ate there; and whether they had money or not, never went hungry. The Western Street in La Riviere is named "Roger Street" in their memory, and remains of their flower garden are still to be found in the bush there — iris, lilies and honeysuckle.
Many of our pioneers are resting in the little cemetery near the river.

As noted above, a part of the town's story and those of its inhabitants from the early days of European settlement through roughly 1979 is told in the volume "Turning Leaves - A History of La Riviere and District", especially starting on pages 40 and 45f, the latter of which includes a list of burials known at the time of publication. A free digital version of this and many other Manitoba local history books can be found online in the University of Manitoba Digital Collections. There is also a list of such books organized by district and town name on the Manitoba Historical Society's website on their page entitled "Finding Aid: Manitoba Local History Books".
A list of burials in this cemetery is available from the Manitoba Genealogical Society (reference #0071), transcribed by a member or members in 1982. Also available to MGS members is a searchable online database named the "MGS Manitoba Name Index" (or MANI). Some additional information is contained in the 1996 MGS publication "Carved in Stone: Manitoba Cemeteries and Burial Sites" (revised edition, Special Projects Publication, 106 pages).
Additionally, the local Pembina Manitou Archive curates a considerable collection of records and information about the people and places of the area, including a listing of those buried in this cemetery based on the files of the Rural Municipality of Pembina, the church files, and the information on the gravestones in the cemetery.
