The Marquis of Bute provided 2 acres of land in 1848 for the burial ground in Adamsdown. Within a year the cemetery was overcrowded following a Cholera outbreak. During 1948 the cemetery was turned into a park and the headstones repositionned around the edges. In 2006 there was a 1/2 million pound regeneration and many of the headstones were featured in the pathway designs. Many bodies were exhumed and moved to Cathays cemetery.
