Pürgen is a small village, about 10 min south-east of Landsberg. The village and its hamlets has about 2800 inhabitants (as of 2000). The little church in the middle of the cemetery is dedicated to St. George. There are just a few urn burials in this cemetery. A newer part of the cemetery has opened behind the church in the mmid 1970's.
A new columbarium/urn wall had been established in early 2006.
Nearby church cemeteries that belong to Pürgen are:
► Friedhof Stoffen
► Friedhof Lengenfeld
► Friedhof Ummendorf
► Friedhof Pürgen
All part of the Catholic diocese of Augsburg.
Please note that the graves in Germany are not perpetual. After a certain period of repose (20-30 years) the graves are being leveled and re-used. There is no toxic embalming being done in Germany, so the coffin and the corpse have decomposed naturally. If the family of the deceased decides to purchase another period the duration can be extended by another 30 years. War Graves are considered memorials and are kept up by the owner of the cemetery. Those are kept forever.
