Add PhotosThe Bennett Family Cemetery was located on the grounds of the Beech Grove Plantation in East Feliciana Parish, Louisiana (just north of he town of Clinton, LA).
Bennett ancestors have said it was sometimes called
the Bennett-Bowman Family Cemetery. Also located on the Plantation grounds, next to the Bennett Family Cemetery was the Rowley Family Cemetery.
An article from the March 1971 issue of the Louisiana Genealogical Register, page 67 entitled "BENNETT-BOWMAN TOMBSTONES" (a letter, dated June 2, 1962 to Mrs. M. Ear. Denham of Baton Rouge, LA from Mrs. Alice K. Hatcher of Clinton, LA) states "We visited the old Bennett Cemetery, I wish we had gone long ago, for since the time Monroe and Zach had seen it and told me that Hatchers and Bennetts were buried there, log trucks, tractors and bulldozers have just ruined it. They made a road right through the middle of it and broke every stone in it. There was not one left standing. We did find some parts of Bartholomew Bennett's and other members of his family's stones, some we only found a date or one word - no Hatchers at all. I so much wanted to find Hatcher stones. We had two men with us. I had them dig into the road that had been made through the cemetery, found stones just ground up. We could not get large enough parts to put together at all". The memorials listed in this cemetery were created using her notes from the above stated article and a book by Mary Ann Smith Sagley "East Feliciana Parish Louisiana Cemetery Inscriptions".
